What is Heating Oil?

Heating oil, also known as 28 second oil or kerosene, is the most used fuel type in the UK for heating oil, with over 1.5 million homes relying on kerosene to keep warm.

There are two types of heating oil:

• Kerosene - a lighter and cleaner fuel which is commonly used within UK homes.
• Gas Oil - a heavier oil generally used commercially and in older systems.

Heating oil is produced from petroleum by heating crude oil to high temperatures in a fractioning column.
